Driving rant - The "Eff You Gap Closure."

My morning commute today was filled with people who seemed to still have their brains frozen from the weekend. People merging without looking, without signaling, without using any common sense.

What gets me the most about today, though, was an incident that I've experienced many times before. I call it the "eff you gap closure." Here's how it works;

You're driving along, and decide you need to move one lane over. You see that there's a good gap, and the car behind that gap in your intended lane isn't moving. You even hit your signal, wait 5 seconds, and look again to see if the driver decides to make a decision to occupy the space. Well they don't, and you move over. However, about halfway into the lane change, that person has decided that he didn't want to let you in, stomps on the accelerator, and runs up right on your bumper.

This happened to me today. It still doesn't make one bit of sense. I even checked my signals when I got to work, and they were both functioning. I'm not sure if it's a lack of attentiveness when driving, that my moving into the lane is what wakes them up, or if these people pulling this maneuver are just assholes with a car.

I fail to see how that's any different than your average commute. I see it all the time, regardless of the weather. Shitty drivers will be shitty drivers, no matter the condition.

Well, I had someone try to merge, sans signal, with my front bumper. That doesn't happen every morning.

True. But I've had it happen more often to me in the last 10 months than should have ever happened. Anything greater than 0 for a bullshit (and lazy) maneuver like that is too much.

I saw the headline and it immediately occurred to me that the closing of the GAP clothing franchise would not necessarily be a bad thing.

Yeah, that's one of my favorite dick moves. Sometimes they accent it with a honk. I guess they're trying to trick you into thinking you didn't see them and almost caused an accident? But it's like "dude, I was watching you in my mirror the whole time".
